TyneMet College’s Football Academy students made the perfect start to their FA Youth Cup campaign last night (Wednesday 2nd September) with an impressive 7-1 victory over local team Heaton Stannington.
The Academy side took control of the game early on and secured a commanding 4-1 lead by half-time. Three more goals followed in the second half as the students completed a dominant performance to confirm their place in the next round of the competition.
Goals on the night came from McKenzie Gibson, Rory McEvoy, Jake Taylor, Joe Watson and Spencer Ashcroft with the whole team showcasing talent and teamwork throughout the game.
The victory keeps alive hopes of surpassing the Academy’s best-ever FA Youth Cup run, achieved in 2024 when the team reached the Second-Round Proper.
Head Coach, Marc Nash praised his team’s performance, saying:
It was a fantastic way to start our FA Youth Cup campaign. The players showed great quality and professionalism throughout the game. To score seven goals and progress to the next round is a real credit to the hard work they've put in both on and off the pitch during pre-season training. We're proud of the performance, but now our focus turns to the next challenge as we look to go even further in the competition.
The Blyth Spartans Academy is delivered in partnership with TyneMet College and Blyth Spartans AFC, offering students the opportunity to combine their football development with courses in areas including Sport, Construction and Engineering. Training and competitive fixtures are built around students’ timetables, allowing them to pursue their sporting ambitions while gaining important qualifications for their future careers.
The Academy will now look ahead to the next round as they continue their FA Youth Cup journey.
