You can find out everything you need to know in a number of ways – pop into one of our open events, chat to one of out student advisors on LiveChat or give us a call and speak to one of our Student Services team. We’ve also put together a handy set of questions and answers so you can find out everything you need to know about college life.

Questions about joining?

What will my timetable look like?

Your timetable will be very personal to you, depending on the subjects you have chosen to study.

It will consist of your chosen course along with Independent Study and Tutorial. If you are also doing your Maths and/or English, this will be included in your timetable.

All students have free time on a Wednesday afternoon which is used for ‘enrichment’, giving you the opportunity to take part in NESA, across a wide range of different sports.

Do I need to wear a uniform?

College isn’t like school, for most courses there is no uniform required and you can come into college in casual clothes.

However, if you do require a uniform for your course, you will be told more about this during your induction.

Do I have a form tutor?

You will have a Pastoral Tutor who is dedicated to ensuring you are happy in college.

Your tutor will work with you to ensure that you are fulfilling your potential and ensure you are getting all the support you need and monitoring your progress.  They will also be there to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Are there any facilities on-site to buy food and drink?

See below for a selection of on-site facilities to buy food and drink:

The Dock

Situated just off main reception, you can get a selection of hot and cold refreshments, and main meals including vegetarian and healthy options. This facility is open for breakfast and lunch.

Shop

Located in main reception, the shop offers a wide selection of products including confectionary, cold drinks, tea and coffee, not to mention all your usual essentials.

Retreat Bistro

Situated in the heart of our Coast Road campus, Retreat Bistro is our commercial restaurant, run by our team of trainee chefs and front of house service students. Using locally sources, top quality seasonal ingredients, it offers a high-quality experience at a fraction of the price. Themed nights held throughout the year offer something a little different to enjoy.

Local shopping centre

We are very well placed with nearby shops located only a 5 minutes’ walk away including Subway, Greggs, Dickson’s, Tesco Express, Lidl, Chinese takeaway and a Fish and chip shop.

What will I be doing during induction week?

Induction week will give you the chance to meet your course tutors and the classmates you’ll be studying with for the rest of the year.

You will take a tour of the facilities to familiarise yourself with the college and the rooms you’ll be studying in.

What do I need to bring with me?

On your first day, all you will need is a pen and a notepad, unless you have been told otherwise.

We have water fountains across the campus, so pop a bottle in your bag.
