Here’s what Isaac said about the experience:

“It was a really good feeling to receive the call to make my first team debut, I was very excited. It was a surreal experience and the build-up was very special. We won so made the experience even more amazing.”

Shaun started studying with us back in 2011 and since then has gone on to achieve amazing things in his career. From starting on a Foundation Learning course with us to studying a PhD in Computer Science, Shaun really has had an inspiring journey. Due to Shaun’s Special Educational Needs which includes dyslexia, dyspraxia and autism, he first started studying on our Employability and Personal Development course but soon progressed through the levels to complete a Foundation Degree in Education and Care.

After completing his studies with us in 2018, he then went on to finish his degree with a top-up in Education and Curriculum Studies at University of Sunderland. Here’s what he says about his time with us…

“I enjoyed and loved every second of studying at TyneMet. I made a lot of new friends and got the challenge I was looking for. I like how the teachers treat you as an adult and understand your learning needs.” The college give me a second chance in life after I had a big breakdown when I left sixth form in 2011. The college helped to rebuild me as a person by helping to build up my confidence, independent skills, motivation, determination. SHAUN LILLIE - HIGHER EDUCATION
Previous uniformed services student

Joe studied with us back in 2016 after coming from Burnside School. When leaving school, he wasn’t really sure what to do but decided to look at the courses we offer as his siblings studied with us and went on to have great careers. Eventually, after taking advice from family members in the armed forces, he enrolled on our Uniformed Services courses. The course allowed Joe to develop the skills needed to work in the sector as well as knowledge of all the services. Here’s what he says about his time studying with us…

“I gained qualifications but the best part about the course was the people I ended up meeting as well as the visits/opportunities the course had to offer such as training with the Royal Marines and visiting the Royal Fusiliers.”

During his studies, Joe’s tutor supported and guided him towards a career in the RAF as it best suited his skills so he applied to join at the end of the academic year. After finishing college, he then travelled to RAF Halton for 10 weeks basic training.

Fast forward to today, Joe has now served 4 years in the RAF and travelled the world to places including Germany, Falkland Islands and Cyprus on deployment. Joe describes his decision to study Uniformed Services as the ‘best decision I’ve ever made’.
