Our ground-breaking joint rugby and education partnership with Newcastle Thunder, which has now been extended to 2024, inspired Isaac Nokes to success in his first professional appearance in Thunder’s 24-16 Betfred Championship win at Kingston Park. He lined up alongside Alex Donaghy, who also previously took part in the Rugby Excellence programme.
Alex and Isaac played for England Under-18s while studying the two-year programme, which aims to make youngsters’ dreams a reality by developing their playing skills, while gaining a professional sports qualification.
Morpeth Town AFC and TyneMet are giving 16-19-year-olds the best of both worlds.
A three-year scheme will kick-off in September for around 60 students to learn a hands-on profession through college, alongside developing their football skills at the Premier Division club that play within the Northern Premier League.
EDF Renewables has taken on eight apprentices from all over the UK for a three-year course to become Wind Turbine Technicians. They’ll start their new roles as Wind Turbine Technicians by spending a year and a half at TyneMet College, before learning the practical elements of the job at a number of EDF sites across the UK
