Barbering and Hairdressing Students Enjoy Industry Insight at Great British Barber Bash

Students studying Barbering and Hairdressing at TyneMet College recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring day on campus as we welcomed the Great British Barber Bash for a special live event designed to develop their industry skills and knowledge.

Throughout the day, students were treated to live demonstrations from renowned barbers Brodie Raeside and Brandyn Murphy, who showcased a range of modern barbering techniques including skin fades and mullet cuts. Students were able to watch each style from start to finish, with both barbers explaining their methods in detail while sharing professional advice and tips with our aspiring barbers.

The event gave students a valuable opportunity to learn directly from experienced industry professionals and gain insight into the latest trends and techniques currently shaping the barbering industry.

As well as enjoying the live demonstrations, students also received free Osmo products thanks to the event organisers, giving them the chance to explore and use professional products within their own practice.

Following the demonstrations, Brodie and Brandyn headed into the salons where they provided one-to-one coaching sessions with students. Learners were able to practise the techniques they had observed earlier in the day on their own models, while receiving personalised guidance and feedback from the professionals themselves.

The hands-on experience proved hugely beneficial for students as they continue preparing for careers within the barbering industry, helping to build both confidence and technical ability ahead of entering the workplace.

Emma Douglas, Head of Department for Hair and Beauty, said

It was fantastic to welcome the Great British Barber Bash to campus and give our students the opportunity to learn from such talented professionals. Experiences like this are invaluable as they allow our learners to develop their practical skills, gain insight into current industry trends and hear first-hand advice from successful barbers already working in the sector. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and gained so much from the experience.
