Level 3 Extended Diploma Health and Social Care students are celebrating after all securing conditional offers to study Psychology at Northumbria University in September 2026.

Alana, Katelynn and Brooke are currently in the final year of their two-year Health and Social Care course, where they built strong skills and knowledge across a wide range of areas within the sector. The course has helped them develop a real understanding the healthcare sector as well as clinical practice and health and wellbeing, giving them a great foundation for their next step into higher education.
Alongside their studies, the students also took part in work experience placements in schools and care homes. These opportunities allowed them to put what they’d learned into practice, gain confidence and develop real-world experience. The placements also helped strengthen their personal statements when applying to university.
Each student has clear career goals, with Katelynn hoping to become a play therapist, Brooke aiming to work in educational psychology, and Alana interested in forensic psychology. Their Psychology degrees at Northumbria University are the ideal next step towards achieving these ambitions.
Their course tutor, Sophie McNamara said:
I’m incredibly proud of these students for securing their conditional offers. They’ve worked so hard over the last two years and really deserve this success. They’re on track to achieve the grades they need for university, and I can’t wait to see what they go on to achieve next.
The students also shared advice for current Year 11s who are thinking about their options after school. Their advice is to choose subjects they enjoy and not to worry about changing their minds along the way. Despite studying a vocational course, many of the students didn’t realise university was an option at first. By choosing to complete the extra year, they’ve now been able to progress to university and move closer to their career goals.
Their success shows just how many opportunities vocational courses can offer and highlights how dedication and hard work can lead to an exciting future.
