Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy – Level 4
The Level 4 Certificate furthers learners the knowledge and skills in sports massage to be able to treat, and /or seek to; correct common patterns of dysfunction and suitable pre -diagnosed injuries.
Successful achievement of the qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within an organisational setting of alternatively in a self-employed environment.
- Learners must hold the Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage (Soft Tissue Therapy) or equivalent
- There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 3.
- Performing sports massage is a physical activity and learners will need to be fit enough to carry this out.
- To provide learners with the knowledge to be able to understand the clinical procedures for client assessment and treatment planning
- To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to conduct an objective physical assessment
- To provide learners with the knowledge to be able to understand the purpose of neuromuscular and tissue mobilisation techniques in sports massage and the skills to be able to apply effective neuromuscular and tissue mobilisation techniques
- To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to prescribe corrective exercise to aid in the treatment of common injuries/ soft tissue dysfunction.
The course offers visits to local sports events to gain practical experience of pre and post event sports massage. Guest speakers will come in to share their experiences and offer an insight into the sports massage industry.
Assessment is through completion of workbooks, report writing, group work, exam and a practical assessment. You must also complete supervised massage as part of this qualification.
This qualification provides progression on to further specialist training in sports massage and routes into fitness instructing.
