Course Overview

This is a popular course, with a strong focus on person-centred theory and practice, for those who have completed a level 2 counselling skills certificate course and are looking to progress to a higher level of counselling training. This course is delivered by very experienced tutors who have an excellent industry reputation.

 

 

This is a great course for those who have completed a level 2 counselling qualification and would like to build on their existing counselling skills. You will also get a chance to develop your knowledge of counselling theory, ethics and importantly, your knowledge of yourself! Roles that can be enhanced by this course include health and social care, children’s care, learning and development, voluntary and community work.

This qualification is intended for candidates who have already acquired a recognised qualification in counselling skills and want to:

  • Take the next step in training to become a counsellor.
  • Learn more about counselling theory, ethics and mental health.
  • Understand the use of counselling skills in allied professions.
  • Be prepared for work as a professional counsellor in an agency setting.

This qualification leads to employment and increases employability opportunities across a range of heath, care and allied sectors, such as, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, and other helping roles. It provides additional skills for those already in employment and is likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement towards practitioner-level qualifications (TC-L4). Unit 2 enables an understanding of the successful application of counselling skills in non-counselling roles and helps deepen understanding of professional frameworks and approaches to helping.

This qualification will enable successful candidates to work as skilled supporters within a range of job and career opportunities, including befriending and advocacy support. The course is suitable for those who have achieved a Level 2 counselling skills certificate (or equivalent), that has included 75 guided learning hours of classroom training.

The course is delivered on Tuesday mornings from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday mornings from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

This qualification is composed of 2 Units.

  • Unit 1 – Counselling studies
  • Unit 2 – Application of counselling skills in a range of occupational settings.

For instance, learners can Prepare to work within an ethical framework for counselling, Understand the counselling relationship, Understand the nature of relationships in a range of occupational settings and Understand the importance of self-awareness in the application of counselling skills in different occupations.

Anyone interested in studying the Level 3 Counselling Studies will need to have the following:
  • At least 75 guided learning hours at Level 2 counselling skills or equivalent. Distance learning qualifications in Level 2 counselling are not valid for progression to this course.
  • An interest in working with others and are willing to be open to working with others
  • An interest in your own personal development and taking on-board feedback from your peers and tutor

You must also be at least 19 years old.

This qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or severe psychological distress. 

Please supply us with the names and addresses of two referees, one of whom should be your previous Counselling course tutor for Level 2.  The second referee could be another tutor, employer or placement provider. Friends and family members should not be used as a referee. Please ensure you have provided an email contact for referees as this is the most effective way to request/receive references. Please ensure that your referees are aware you have put their contact details forward and to expect a reference request to encourage a prompt return of reference. Please note, that place offer cannot be considered until interview has taken place and references received.

Learners can progress to a higher education course, such as the HNC Level 4 counselling & applied psychology course (or equivalent) and to employment roles such as contact centre advisor or family support worker.

‘To achieve the qualification, candidates must be internally assessed as Proficient in all 7 learning outcomes of both units of the qualification.
