Welding – Level 1
Course Overview
This introductory course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of welding principles, safety practices, and hands-on skills. Level 1 Welding covers essential welding techniques including:
- Manual Metal Arc (MMA) Welding
- Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding
- Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding

The aim of the course is to introduce learners to welding processes, health and safety practices, equipment handling, and basic welding techniques.
The course study includes:
- Understanding welding equipment and setup
- Performing basic welds (e.g. lap joints, fillet welds)
- Safety and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Identifying common welding defects
There are no formal entry requirements to study the course but we would expect students to have a keen interest and attitude to learn.
After completing the Level 1 qualifications, students could progress to:
Level 2 Welding Qualifications, such as:
- Level 2 Award/Certificate in Welding (TIG, MIG, or MMA processes)
Apprenticeships in fabrication and welding
