T Level in Management and Administration: Business Support Pathway
Course Overview
The T Level in Management and Administration with a focus on the Business Support Pathway is designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to thrive in the dynamic world of business support and administration. This two-year course combines classroom learning with industry placements to ensure a well-rounded understanding of the subject.
To study the T Level, you will need GCSE English Language and maths at grade 5 plus 3 other GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above.
It is also desirable for you to have a GCSE in business as one of your 3 other GCSE subjects.
If you do not meet the entry requirements to study the T Level, you may be able to apply for our Level 2 course and progress to a T Level the following year.
First year
In your first year, you will gain core knowledge, which will provide an overview of business in context which will include organisational cultures and values; stakeholders and their impact; the different forms of organisational governance and the impact of business activity towards its communities and the environment.
You will also gain core knowledge and skills needed for project and change management where you will discover what how key theories and modules are used to support and improve project success. Quality and compliance policies and procedures are important in the maintenance and improvement of quality within organisations.
The second element of your first year will involve taking part in an Employer set Project, which is designed by business leaders so you can gain real-life experience in working practices within the business context. This will include:
- Conducting a PESTLE analysis to inform a change in the organisation
- Project Plan
- Introducing a new policy or training programme where communication methods are considered for each target audience
- Creating an innovative business solution to present to stakeholders.
The third and final element of your first-year studies is your industry placement which will equal 20% of your qualification and will be in line with the pathway you have chosen for this professional T Level.
Second year
In your second year, you will specialise in Business Support. This will allow you to focus on developing into an administrative role. This is designed to provide you with an insight into how businesses function and what support you should provide. You will discover a new set of business tools, problem solving skills and project management theories and models. You will develop your time management skills and how to prioritise workloads. This will include considering improvements that can be made and recommendations for improvements to business practices. You will also complete your on-the-job placement hours in this academic year.
This course is ideal for any students wanting a career in business support including a range of office-based job roles, secretarial, clerical and personal assistant roles within a variety of key industries in the North East.
On successful completion of the course, there may also be an opportunity for learners to progress to a level 5 operational/departmental manager apprenticeship standard or the HTQ in leadership and management.
Universities will recognise your T level qualification as a Distinction* is the equivalent to 3 A Levels graded at A* in UCAS points.
Year 1
- Core Assessment: External Set Test – Paper 1 and Paper 2
- Employer Set Project: Externally assessed
- Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of on-the-job hours, this will include evidence of your technical skills and application of knowledge in the workplace.
Year 2
- A synoptic assessment designed to judge the requirements have been met for a business support role
- Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of on-the-job hours, this will include evidence of your technical skills and application of knowledge in the workplace.
