T Level in Digital – Business Support Services: Digital Support
Course Overview
The T Level in Digital – Business Support Services: Digital Support is designed by key employers to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the dynamic and technology-driven world of business support services. This T Level program combines academic learning with industry placement, ensuring that students gain practical experience in addition to the theoretical understanding.
This T Level in Digital focuses on a digital support role, for example, as an IT Security Co-Ordinator, IT Support Technician, Cyber Security Technician.
To study the T Level, you will need GCSE English Language and maths at grade 5 plus 3 other GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above.
It is also desirable for you to have a GCSE in computing or computer science as one of your 3 other GCSE subjects.
If you do not meet the entry requirements to study the T Level, you may be able to apply for our Level 2 course and progress to a T Level.
First Year
In your first year, you will gain core knowledge as well as develop an understanding of concepts, theories and contexts with the digital industry. This will include looking at digital from a business context of data, digital analysis, security, testing, culture, and digital environments.
You will also gain core knowledge and skills needed to create, develop and project a positive digital identity and how to maintain and manage this digital reputation. This will include adopting professional approaches to using social media and other digital communication platforms. This leads in to developing an awareness of security of data and information and the controls that need to be in place to stop security threats to organisations.
The second element of your first year will involve taking part in an Employer Set Project, which is designed by digital leaders so you can gain real-life experience in working practices within the digital context, which will develop your knowledge skills and behaviours for working in a digital business supporting job role. This will include:
- Working with stakeholders to understand the requirements of the project
- Communicating information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Applying a logical approach to solving problems, identifying and resolving faults, recording the progress of solutions, ensuring the solution avoids risks to security
The third and final element of your first-year studies is your industry placement which equals 20% of your qualification, and will be in line with the pathway you have chosen for this professional T Level.
Second Year
In your second year, you will specialise in Digital Support. This will allow you to focus on developing into a digital technician role. This is designed to provide you with an insight into how to apply procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation, this will lead to the installation, configuration and support for software applications and operating systems.
This course is ideal for learners wanting a career in a digital business support as well as a range of digital based job roles, these will be mostly technician roles in data analysis, security or business technology support roles in a variety of key industries within the North East.
Following successful completion of the course, they may be an opportunity for learners to progress to a level 4 forensic technician apprenticeship standard or the HTQ in Technologies.
Universities will recognise your T level qualification as a Distinction* which is the equivalent to 3 A Levels graded at A* in UCAS points.
Year 1
- Core Assessment: External Set Test – Paper 1 and Paper 2
- Employer Set Project: Externally assessed
- Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of on-the-job hours, this will include evidence of your technical skills and application of knowledge in the workplace.
Year 2
- A synoptic assessment designed to judge the requirements that have been met for a business support role.
- Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of on-the-job hours, this will include evidence of your technical skills and application of knowledge in the workplace.
