Pre-Access to HE Diploma – Level 2

What is Pre-Access to HE?

The Pre-Access to HE course is ideal if you want to return to college to develop your basic academic skills in preparation for an Access to HE course and subsequent university entry.

The course will help you to develop maths and English skills as well as developing your personal study skills and knowledge.

The Pre-Access to HE (Higher Education) course is delivered at TyneMet’s Coast Road Campus in Wallsend.

This level 2 course is designed to help you build up a series of portfolios related to practical projects, including:

  • Developing IT and presentation skills
  • Developing literacy skills
  • Building a career portfolio
  • Building reports and using basic research methodology
  • Solving practical problems and managing real world projects
  • Study skills and self-development

The course runs from October-June with classes on a Tuesday and Wednesday (9am-12:15pm) and Friday (9am-4pm).

Your timetable will include a tutorial session, which counts towards the course, and an additional period of Functional Skills for maths at Level 1.

There are no entry requirements for the Pre Access to HE course however, you will be invited to a short interview to establish your motivation and readiness for the course, and also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

If you do not have any maths and English qualifications, you will have the option to study Functional Skills maths and English alongside the course.

There is learner support available to help with childcare costs as well as nursery places and other costs associated with learning such as travel and equipment. Speak to a member of our Student Services team to find out what financial support is available for you and how to progress with an application.

The Pre-Access course is designed to enable students to progress onto a full-time Access to Higher Education course.

Access to HE courses are for entry into degrees at universities locally or around the UK. These degree courses can lead to professional careers in social work, nursing, teaching, midwifery and many others.

Upon completion of the Pre-Access course, you will be considered for a place on the Access to HE course. There are also a number of other pathways available across the College to assist with your progression to a particular vocational area.
