Extended Diploma in Rugby Excellence (Newcastle Rugby Foundation) – Level 3
This course is for you if...
You want a career in sport and an opportunity to pursue rugby, then this course will allow you to complete a NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport while training and learning within a professional rugby environment.
As part of the course, you will train like a professional with a good balance between rugby and education with full time coaches from Newcastle Rugby Foundation. You’ll also experience media training, post-game analysis as well as access to strength and conditioning/recovery sessions.
Topics on this course include:
- Sports Coaching
- Fitness Testing
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Nutrition
- Sports Psychology
You will also have the opportunity to experience life in a high performance environment playing in the AOC Premiership league.
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths OR Merit in a Sport qualification at Level 2 along with 4’s at GCSE in English and Maths.
As part of your application, we’ll invite you to Kingston Park to meet one of our course tutors. It’s a great chance for you to find out more about the course, see what it’s really like, and ask any questions you’ve got. Don’t worry – it’s not a test! We just want to get to know you a bit better and help you decide if this is the right course for you.
Depending on which pathway you choose, you will be assessed by exams and coursework.
The coursework includes projects, group presentations and practical work. There will also be a range of externally assessed units which will be in the form of an external exam as well as a controlled assessment.
The Newcastle Rugby Foundation programme also offer excellent progression routes to a range of universities. You could progress onto a wide range of university degrees in areas such as, Sport & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Sports Management, Sports Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Psychology or Sports Nutrition.
Careers include: Teacher, Professional Rugby Coach, Sport Development Officer, Rugby Development Officer, Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Health Promotion Worker, Sport/Health/Leisure Centre Manager, Strength and Conditioning Coach or Sport Psychologist.
As part of the course, our students also have the opportunity to enjoy exciting trips and visits including international fixtures.
In summer 2025, our rugby students travelled to Barcelona to compete in an international fixture against Unio Esportivo Santboiana Rugby Club.
