Course Overview

The Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice aims to support the skills and knowledge needed to become a competent Youth Support Worker. These qualifications replace the previous Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice.

 

 

The qualification contains some common mandatory units which can be transferred into higher level qualifications if learners wish to expand their training and knowledge further.

Applicants should have the desire to work with young people in engaging programmes of social education. You will need to attend an interview with the course tutor. The programme also requires students to comply with all college policies including Equality and Diversity and put into practice Equality of Opportunity.

Employment/voluntary placement is requirements in a youth work setting for this course. Students must have been DBS checked (and found satisfactory) before undertaking the programme.

Learners must achieve at least 37 credits to gain the qualification. To do this they must achieve all units from Mandatory Group A and at least 13 credits from Optional Group B.

Optional Group B

 

  • Detached and Outreach Youth Work – Understanding and Knowledge
  • Detached and Outreach Youth Work – Practice
  • Young People’s Participation in Youth Work
  • Anti-Discriminatory Practice in Youth Work
  • Plus other Units are available to reach needed credits

 

The programme is continually assessed via a selection of evidence that includes case studies, reflective logs / diaries, assignments, essays and practice files. All assessment tasks should give evidence of your learning and understanding of theory and practice.

The qualification aims to provide practitioners with a qualification that embraces National Occupational Standards for youth work and their mandatory competencies containing knowledge requirements and levels of skill. Successful completion of the programme could lead to employment in a youth related field. Level 3 learners may also apply to progress onto the (BA) Hons Youth and Community Degree at Sunderland University or onto the HND in Social and Community Work at TyneMet College.
