You’ll study the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology—equivalent to three GCSEs—alongside GCSE English and Mathematics (if required). In just one intensive year, you’ll have the opportunity to achieve the equivalent of five GCSEs, opening doors to further study, apprenticeships, or employment.
Throughout the course, you’ll develop practical, industry-relevant skills across a range of digital technologies. You’ll explore programming, IT systems, digital design, and creative technology, while gaining hands-on experience in areas such as mobile app development and other exciting digital projects.
This qualification prepares you for a wide range of opportunities in one of the UK’s fastest-growing industries. It can lead to further study or entry-level roles such as Junior Programmer, Software Developer, IT Support Technician, Mobile App Developer, or Graphic Designer. For the work experience unit, you will gain employability skills before taking on a week of experience, on placement, in a sector you are interested in.
To study this course, students should have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above in any subjects, and we expect all students to have a keen interest in learning all aspects of the Digital programme. You can also progress from an appropriate Level 1 qualification.
Assessment is through practical tasks, group work, individual assignments and an exam in Online World and an exam in Technology Systems.
You could progress onto further study on a level 3 qualification or an apprenticeship in Computing-related subjects, alternatively, you could enter full-time employment in the Digital sector.
For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.
Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.
All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
