Course Overview

If you would love to further your skills and knowledge in Art and Design for the creative industries, and work towards a portfolio that showcases your strengths and interests, then this course is ideal if you enjoy bringing ideas to life and wish to pursue a career in the creative sector.

The 540 Credit Diploma in Art and Design offers students a 1 year full time course that teaches the underpinning skills to be able to work with independence and introduces a range of specialist options.

You will develop your skills in the use of computers in Art and Design as well as completing five compulsory core units including; visual communication (drawing), contextual studies and a choice of other subjects from a range of specialist professional areas such as: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Photography, Fashion and Textiles. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit local and national galleries and take part in an exhibition at the end of the course to showcase your work.

This Edexcel programme is delivered by a team of highly skilled teaching and technical support staff with a wealth of industry experience, in purpose-built studios and workshops.

You will learn how to research, evaluate and present your ideas clearly, and to solve creative problems. You’ll study a range of Art and Design disciplines on this one-year course leading to a further year of study to take your qualification up to a BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design.

Minimum of 4 Grades 4-9 (or Grade A* to C). A portfolio of supporting artwork is also required.

You will attend regular tutorials at which you will present your growing portfolio of course work. This work will be reviewed and your achievements assessed and recorded. The emphasis is on practical work, built up through project assignments.
