Course Overview
The HNC in Mechanical Engineering is a work-related high education qualification designed to provide students with the practical and theoretical knowledge needed to excel in the engineering sector. This course is ideal for those looking to start or progress their career in mechanical engineering and related fields.
As part of the course, students will develop an understanding of key engineering concepts including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and engineering design. The course combines academic study with hands-on practical experience, helping students prepare for employment or further academic progression.
- Unit 4001: Engineering Design
- Unit 4002: Engineering Maths
- Unit 4004: Managing a Professional Engineering Project
- Unit 4008: Mechanical Principles
- Unit 4011: Fluid Mechanics
- Unit 4013: Fundamentals of Thermodynamics
- Unit 4014: Production Engineering for Manufacture
- Unit 4017: Quality and Process Improvement
Generally, students should be at least 18 and have either:
- A BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in a relevant subject grade MM
Mature students with other qualifications or appropriate work experiences may be considered. Proof of employment or placement within the applied field of study is essential.
An interview with the course tutor is also required.
Assignments and a work-based project.
Following successful completion of the course, students can progress onto a Foundation Degree or an HND in Engineering.
