STUDENTS' FLYING VISIT TO THOMAS COOK AIRLINES

A group of 19 TyneMet students and 2 members of staff took a trip to attend a one day training session at the Thomas Cook Airlines Training Centre in Cheadle near Stockport on 14th April 2011.

The budding Travel & Tourism students are all on their Level 3 BTEC National and Extended Diplomas in Travel & Tourism.  The second year students had already achieved their fire handling certificate at Newcastle International Airport during the first year of their course, so this opportunity to attend an industry training day was welcomed by all students.

STUDENTS LEND A HAND

Two TyneMet engineering students have returned to their old school to pass on their skills to potential college students.

Harry Browne and Shaun Johnson went back to John Spence Community High School in North Shields to coach a group of youngsters who are building their very own electric car ready for speed trials in July.

TyneMet college donated the car kit to the school as part of the national 'Greenpower' racing competition which is dedicated to promoting engineering and technology as careers to students aged 9-25.
