You have a hunger and determination to have a successful career within the leisure industry.

What will I study?

This course will fully prepare you for your future apprenticeship or employment, giving you the chance to work alongside professionals in the leisure industry. Two and a half days teaching will be supported by two days’ work placement, helping you to achieve the practical skills to further your career and cover every aspect of your personal and professional development.

The course will take place at Concordia Leisure Centre, Cramlington, with work placements at various leisure centres across the borough.

The course will include extra qualifications in:

  • Fitness Instruction
  • Sports Coaching
  • Leisure Operation
  • National Lifeguard Training

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English Language and Maths; or a Merit in a Sport qualification at Level 2 along with Cs or above in English Language and Maths. An interview with a course tutor and a reference from a personal tutor are also required. Relevant work experience will also be considered.


You will be assessed through your coursework, which  includes: projects, group presentations and practical assessments.

Progression & Careers

Upon completion of this programme, you may be eligible for further study at university or for progression into employment within the leisure industry, using your extensive qualifications and work experience within the industry to support you. Careers include: Fitness Instruction, Personal Training, working as a Lifeguard, Leisure Centre employment, Swimming and Sports Coaching.
