HNC in Business // Level 4
This course is delivered at Queen
Alexandra Sixth Form College, Coast Road campus.
The BTEC Higher National qualifications in Business are aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning.
At Level 4 students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the business sector through six core units, which includes one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment.
Higher Nationals provide a wide-ranging study of the business sector and are designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in business.
This course is the equivalent to your first year on a university business course and therefore you may be able to access a second-year business related course at university depending on your overall grade.
The mandatory units are:

- Marketing Processes and Planning
- Human Resource Management
- Leadership and Management
- Accounting Principles
- Managing a successful business project (Pearson-set unit) [Externally Marked]
The two further optional units at Level 4 from the following:

- Recording Financial Transactions
- Business Data and Numerical Skills
- Executive Recruitment Solutions

- Work Experience
Students should be at least 18 years old and have either:
- A relevant BTEC Level 3 qualification
- A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject.
Progression & Careers
Graduates successfully completing the course will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of business. You will have developed a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies. These skills can lead onto a diverse range of career opportunities within business.
The Business Team is busy making preparations for the start of your programme in September 2021. Covid-19 has challenged the delivery of programmes. At Queen Alex Sixth Form College we have developed an effective approach to your programme of study, blending face-to-face and online teaching. Our experience has shown that this method opens new learning opportunities for all, enabling you to develop graduate skills such as time management, self-care and workload prioritisation, with support from the HND Business team and wider college services available to you.
Your sessions will continue to be taught.. This approach will ensure you develop your knowledge and skills on campus. In addition, some theoretical lectures will be delivered online using conference technology (Microsoft Teams).
There is an opportunity to study this qualification part-time, which can be discussed with the Programme Leader.

FutureMe in the North East
The North East Collaborative Outreach Programme (NECOP) has launched its FutureMe programme of activity and support to increase the number of young people from the North East progressing to higher education.
