Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business – Level 5

Course Overview

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Business offers students a variety of specialist pathways designed to support progression into relevant occupational areas or on to degree-level study. These pathways are linked to Professional Body standards (where appropriate) and can provide professional status and progression to direct employment.

From September 2022, this centre will offer pathways in additional to the general Business HND. These pathways will be in Business Management, Business with Marketing, Business with Accounting and Finance; and Business with Law.

At Level 5 students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the business sector through six core units, which include one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment.

This course is the equivalent to your second year on a university business course. Students normally progress onto a top-up degree in a business and management, or similar, to complete their undergraduate studies.

  • Research Project (Pearson-Set) – equivalent to two units
  • Organisational Behaviour

There are five further specialist/optional units at Level 5 some examples of these are as follows:

  • Management Accounting
  • Global Business Environment
  • Digital Marketing
  • Procurement and Supply Chain Management
  • Company Law and Corporate Governance
  • Developing Individuals, Teams and Organisations
  • Customer Value Management
  • Sales Management
  • Tapping into New and International Markets
  • HNC in Business Other related Level 4 business qualifications
  • 40% average from a first year of a business qualification
  • A foundation degree in another field
  • Related work experience
  • An international equivalent of the above.
  • A level 2 English proficiency through GCSE English, IELTS of 5.5. (Reading), or equivalent.

Graduates successfully completing the Higher National Certificate and the Higher National Diploma will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of business. You will be able to communicate accurately and appropriately and they will have the qualities needed for employment that requires some degree of personal responsibility. This can lead onto a diverse range of careers within Business.

There is an opportunity to study this qualification part-time, which can be discussed with the Programme Leader.
