TyneMet is the first STEM Assured College in the North of England.
At TyneMet College, our vision for STEM is a simple but compelling one, to create an education and training environment that delivers the best in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths teaching and learning at every stage of lifelong learning.
We see STEM as pivotal in all that we do not least because we see STEM as being key to the future for our students, our workforce and our region. On the emerging horizon we see key development and related employment opportunities quickly gathering pace with the re-development of the North Bank of the Tyne, the planned growth of offshore wind turbines across the region and a focus on green energy associated both with a low carbon economy including electric vehicles and power transmission. Other key developments include a focus on sustainability and emerging opportunities in waste and recycling, plus developments in sports and health related sciences.
TyneMet College is proud to announce that it is the first college in the North of England to be awarded STEM Assured status by the New Engineering Foundation (NEF). The STEM Assured standard recognises excellence in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) provision within the Further Education sector, with a particular focus on industry relevance and embedding STEM skills across a range of learning areas. This award reflects TyneMet’s determination to be at the forefront of STEM provision and meet the needs of local and national employers.
We have also developed a STEM Manifesto which gives our students, staff and community stakeholders a summary of the vision we seek to create and the specific pledges. We will implement these pledges and strive to achieve our longe term aims over the coming months and years. Existing and new students will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of STEM activities and developments.
