Health and Social Care Students Praised

A group of Health and Social Care students at TyneMet have been praised for their research into ante-natal care and teenage pregnancy.

The Level 3 students produced the work which was then passed to Anne Tierney who is a Teenage Pregnancy and Adolescent Sexual Health Co-ordinator on North Tyneside.

The UK has one of the highest levels of unplanned teenage pregnancies in the world and North Tyneside has one of the highest figures in the country.

College Health Award

The college has been praised for the work it does to promote health and well being among staff and students.

TyneMet has won the bronze award in the 'Better Health at Work awards which is organised by the NHS.

It's the first year the college has taken part in the project and the aim is to win the silver award next time round.

TyneMet's Health and Safety Advisor Kirsty Williams says: "The aim is to promote health and well being across the college community. To win the award we had to satisfy a long list of criteria, provide evidence and have an inspection."

Oxford University visit to Queen Alex

A senior academic from Oxford University is planning to visit Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College in the spring.

Dr Helen Swift, Fellow and Tutor from St Hilda's College will travel to North Tyneside to present an award to Queen Alex lecturer, Steven Driver.

 Just before Christmas it was announced that Steven had won the very first Oxford University, 'Inspirational Teachers Award.' He was nominated by  Georgina Burt, a former student who is now studying at St Hilda's.
