Cash for Cancer Treatment

Hundreds of men with prostate cancer will benefit from special treatment, thanks to a group of TyneMet students.

The youngsters, all taking part in the Preparing for Employment course, raised £356 for the local charity, 'Coping with Cancer'. The money will provide acupuncture treatment for patients at North Tyneside General hospital. Prostate cancer sufferers experience side-effects after being given hormone treatment. Acupuncture helps relieve the symptoms.

TyneMet Florists Meet The Duchess

The Duchess of Northumberland was guest of honour at a special event to mark the 125th anniversary of a Wallsend church.

To add to the celebrations, Floristry teachers and students from TyneMet College provided some wonderful floral displays at Our Lady of Saint Columba in Carville Road.

The Flower Festival was also sponsored by pop legend, 'Sting' who as Gordon Sumner was baptised in the church in October 1951.

Marks and Spencer boss, Sir Stuart Rose even provided champagne and canapés for the occasion.

TyneMet at Evolution

It's the North East's biggest music festival and TyneMet College was very much part of it.

The Evolution Festival on the Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides attracted thousands of youngsters over the bank holiday weekend - many of them potential students - to hear the likes of Paolo Nutini, Calvin Harris, Tinchy Stryder and home-grown talent The Futureheads.

The bank holiday festival, which is now in its fifth year, continues to gain in popularity and has secured bigger acts each year.
