TyneMet's Stretch and Challenge Week provides students with a whole range of fantastic opportunities. Working with employers from various sectors, students benefited from the unique insight and expertise employers offered throughout the week.
Students from Sport, Uniformed Services and Health and Social Care had the opportunity to take part in specific activities and talks related to their chosen career path.
Warick Stephenson, Head of Care, Sport and Leisure at TyneMet College, said: "Stretch and Challenge Week was designed so the students can gain an understanding of the importance of developing new skills and experiences both mentally and physically.
"Getting employers from the local area who have industry experience to deliver sessions really resonates with the students, and it is a chance for them to get a glimpse of working in the industry they see themselves in after college."
Stretch and Challenge Week is an initiative ran by TyneMet College to highlight to current students the different aspects of their chosen industry that they could progress into.
Employers such as the Army, Active Northumberland, the Police Force, Access Coaching, St John's Ambulance and many more, all shared their experiences with TyneMet students.
Darlye Jobling, Level 3 Coaching and Fitness student, said: "Stretch and Challenge Week was very interesting, the Squash Activator course highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sport and allowed me to practice and improve my coaching skills."
Jess Brown, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services student, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the experience day with Tyne and Wear Fire Service. We learned about the physical and mental demands of being a full-time fire fighter by taking part in drills and exercises with the staff."
Stretch and Challenge Week is in place to give students opportunities to develop new skills and to work with employers and build connections. Alongside this, the students also gain additional qualifications such as Squash Activator and First Aid.
