Tyne Metropolitan College’s purpose built campus for specialist building trades, TMC, is delighted to announce it has received the Thistle Partnership Award from global construction manufacturing giant, British Gypsum.
The British Gypsum Technical Academy ‘Thistle Training Partnership Programme’ will provide support for the plastering and dry lining department at TMC. This is a double success for the College who recently received backing from British Gypsum to become one of only four FE colleges in its college partner initiative in the UK to deliver the sought after skills, training and qualifications in plastering and dry lining systems. With significant investment from British Gypsum in the provision of their expertise, materials and equipment for the College to facilitate the new offer that will provide apprenticeships and a specialist upskilling programme.
The Thistle Partnership Award means that the plastering and interior dry lining provision at TMC will be supported by British Gypsum and TMC learners will receive a whole host of benefits in accordance to the partnership, including:a large donation of materials, thistle work wear and goodies, visits from British Gypsum experts and access to an exclusive partnership ‘learning hub’ which provides an online platform for the latest industry related information in the plastering trade.
British Gypsum Technical Academy Manager, Dave Hall, said:

TyneMet have a strong understanding of the training that industry needs, developing tradespeople who are site ready and have a sound understanding of modern methods of site practice for Interior Systems and Plastering. Working with and supporting Colleges to develop skilled tradespeople of the future is paramount if we are to address the serious need for skilled labour in addressing the skills shortage in our industry.”

TMC, specialises in qualifications and training for building services and the construction industry, offering hands-on training that will equip young people and adults with the skills that the sector need to build a great career in one of the many areas of building services, including: bricklaying, electrical installations, joinery and carpentry, painting and decorating, plastering and plumbing.
