Queen Alexandra Sixth Form college continues its six-year record of excellence with a 99% A Level pass rate for 2016. The College continues to perform strongly with a 100% pass rate in 80% of subjects highlighting the College’s high performance in A Level results and its commitment to providing the very best in A Level study across the region.
With an outstanding 100% positive destinations rate recorded for 2016, over 94% of A Level students gained entry to university, with an overall 75% of students applying to Russell Group universities successful in gaining entry for September 2016, with many Queen Alex students being accepted into their first choice university. Boasting remarkable results across the board, Cambridge success continued for Queen Alex, with two highly gifted and promising students, Mark Bal and Carlos Purves both receiving triple A* A Level results. The friends will both be reading at Jesus College, Cambridge.
Mark Bal, former pupil at John Spence Community High School received highly impressive triple A* A Level results in Chemistry, Maths and Biology and will be reading natural sciences at Cambridge. Carlos Purves, former pupil from Marden High School received an outstanding triple A* result in Physics, Maths and Further Maths, surpassing expectations by scoring 600 out of 600 in the Further Maths exam.
Carlos said “There really is no secret to getting the grades you need for university, hard work and perseverance will help you to succeed. Being accepted at Cambridge was a wonderful feeling, my time at Queen Alex has fully prepared me for this moment, the teaching is excellent and the support you receive is incredible.”
Students continued to be delighted with their results, with successful students progressing to top universities -including Durham and Glasgow in subjects such as Veterinary Science, Engineering and Mathematics. In line with national trends, Mathematics, one of the most popular A Level subjects across the country continues to produce high grades at Queen Alex with 87.5% for A Level further mathematics.
The Creative Studios at Queen Alex received an incredible 100% pass rate at A Level this year, confirming the success of the department, which places precedence on turning talent into credible careers.
Rhiann Hearons, former pupil at Norham High School said: “I am delighted with my results, I was so happy to see an A* A Level in Graphic Design! I’ll be going to Lincoln University to study Illustration and I can’t wait. I couldn’t have got here without the amazing support from Queen Alex, the teachers and pastoral tutors have really helped me and I feel so grateful for their efforts in helping me achieve my results. I feel prepared for university and will always be thankful to the amazing staff at Queen Alex for their help and support.”
