Floristry Students Step in to Narnia

16 February 2012

Full and part time students studying on the National Certificate in Floristry course worked with the talented and creative floristry staff at TyneMet College to produce magical floristry arrangements to support a ‘Narnia’ themed wedding.

The bride, Kelly Beard (now Foden) came to TyneMet’s, floristry outlet ‘Flourish’ following a recommendation from a friend who had used the College to design her wedding flowers.  Following an in depth consultation with Michele Humble, Floristry Technician, and Flourish Manager, the idea for the ‘Narnia’ theme was created.

The students Anne Forster, 50, from Ashington studying on the National Certificate in Floristry and Janet Ferry, 42, from Blyth studying on the Diploma in Floristry were excited to be involved in the arranging of the bouquets, button holes, hair flowers and table centre arrangements, they volunteered to work in their own time to help produce the amazing floral pieces.

Despite having only 4 months experience the students worked with the floristry teachers and technicians and the finished pieces were a work of art, the fantastic designs reflecting magical, wintery and rustic concepts to meet the brief approved by the bride at her consultation.

The Floristry department at TyneMet College has staff with a wealth of industry experience and the displays and arrangements designed are of a very high standard, the retail outlet Flourish has been contacted numerous times to undertake commissions for birthdays, weddings, funerals and other occasions.

Paul Graham, Head of Service and Business Enterprises, TyneMet College, said:

“The dedicated and talented staff working in the Floristry department have many years of industry experience, owning or managing floristry shops before joining TyneMet, they are very passionate about passing on their talents to students and enjoy working on live briefs like the ‘Narnia’ theme wedding flowers.  Their creations are always of a very high standard and our retail outlet Flourish can become very busy at times.”

Kelly Beard Foden, said:

“I was really unsure of what type of flower arrangements that I wanted, but after talking everything through with Michele the ‘Narnia’ theme came about.  My bouquet was absolutely amazing, everybody said so and my hair piece,  bridesmaid’s bouquet, the button holes and the table centre pieces were so pretty and unusual, I received lots and lots of compliments on the day.  I would like to thank the staff and students at TyneMet for making the floral arrangements, they followed the mystical and magical design brief which complemented my wedding theme and made my day so memorable.”
