The Monday 2nd November tutorial was enlivened for the Personal Development Opportunities groups as they invited an outside speaker, Ian Mills, who gave a presentation on different cultures round the world. The presentation focussed on Cameroon, Vietnam and Indonesia, looking at the similarities and differences between these cultures and our own. The talk embraced many aspects of these tropical places including daily village life, social interaction, transportation and wildlife. A series of colourful photographs from recent visits to these countries held the interest of the students, who responded well with their questions and comments. Following the session, students were invited to use some of the optical equipment used by the speaker on his foreign trips. Ian was very impressed with the students, commenting on their outstanding levels of concentration and their appreciation of the presentation. In short, a very successful learning experience for all.
