NUFC’s Alan Pardew joins in on TyneMet Football coaching assessment!

Tyne Metropolitan College football students were astonished when their Level One Coaching assessments were welcomingly gate-crashed by no other than NUFC’S manager, Alan Pardew! Students, who attended the assessment at Newcastle United First Team Training Ground, were eager to impress and achieve an additional qualification from the Football Association.

The atmosphere was a mix of excitement and suspense; as the Academy’s Football students were the first group this year to deliver their coaching assessment; which combined three days intensive sporting theory and practical assignments.

Deputy Head of Sport Chris Wall said: “Our NESA students are dedicated to learning their craft, and the coaching assessment helps to enhance learning through engagement activities such as community work experience and the chance to work with schools”.

Tyne Metropolitan College have long standing links with Newcastle United Football Club, and the coaching assessment unit demonstrates what is possible. Neil Winskill; NUFC Football Development Manager said: “This year we decided to give the students a new environment for the assessment that would take them out of their comfort zone and challenge the students, putting them to the test. With a week of practical assignments and a day of rigorous assessment – they all passed with flying colours - overall it was a great afternoon!”

The course which was held at Newcastle United’s training ground provided students with the perfect learning environment to master their skills further; TyneMet student Joe Elrod said: "I really enjoyed completing my FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate. During the course I had the unique experience of coaching a group of players from a primary school at Newcastle United’s Training ground, and the fact Alan Pardew was present made the day extra speciaI! I found the course interesting and testing but it has given me the opportunity to become a fully qualified coach and I am already putting my skills to work by coaching a local team”.
