Learning Tools
Listening and reacting to feedback is important to TyneMet. That’s why, when students requested more and better IT facilities and a wireless connection across the college, that’s what they got.
All students can use the onsite IT equipment and there are laptops available for off-campus projects, depending on the course you’re studying. As well as the equipment itself, there are always members of IT staff on hand to provide support and guidance. Whatever level of computer literacy you have, these industry-experienced professionals will ensure you make the most of TyneMet’s IT provision. There are even workshops for those who need a bit of extra help getting started.
To encourage student-to-student support a dedicated IT help area has been established. Here, IT students provide solutions to other students’ computing problems, mimicking the workings of a professional IT support room.
Moodle
The college has recently adopted Moodle as part of its established intranet service. This brilliant virtual learning environment means students can catch up on notes and access learning materials at the touch of a button. From the intranet, you can also access the TyneMet e-library, reserving books and renewing loans.
Library opening hours
The libraries are open from 8.30am – 8pm from Monday to Thursday and from 8.30am – 4pm on Fridays. These four late nights mean fitting in some quiet study couldn’t be easier and there are 46 library computers available, all with Internet access. New students are offered an induction to using the library to help make sure they benefit from all the available services.
Disability access
Our libraries are fully wheelchair accessible and have adjustable furniture for people with physical disabilities. IT packages designed for those with learning difficulties are available and staff work hard to help all students use the libraries effectively.
