TyneMet is a great place to learn but there’s loads of extra fun to be had too

Fun at TyneMet

Whilst you're hard at work, you can also take time to take the opportunity to socialise throughout the college.

Cafés

TyneMet has four cafés serving up a variety of delicious snacks and meals. Take your pick from Amigo’s for home-cooked meals made from locally sourced ingredients, Café Direct for top-quality coffee, soup and sarnies, the laid-back Refectory for traditional breakfasts or The Kitchen, where you’re guaranteed a hearty feed.

Places to meet

TyneMet’s various common rooms with their pool tables, vending machines and comfy furniture are the ideal place to meet, chat and take a break between classes.

Shows and exhibitions

Each year the college boasts a sparkling calendar of shows and exhibitions. The end-of-year fashion show is particularly popular with its catwalk styles, chilled drinks and sophisticated nibbles. Art students showcase their work in an impressive annual exhibition, which often attracts the attention of agents, gallery owners and private businesses. In previous years, students’ work has been used to market TyneMet—the most striking images illustrating postcards, posters and other materials.

Student Union

Students who want to get involved in events outside of their usual curriculum should become part of the Student Union. This team leads TyneMet’s social calendar and works with the NUS to make sure students have access to the best advantages and offers.

Exchanges and fieldtrips

College fun continues off-campus with exchanges and fieldtrips. Some Sixth Form students take part in the college’s Comenius project. This three-way exchange between TyneMet and schools in Italy and Norway explores climate change.

Working with partner organisations, Early Years students have developed an important project for children. By organising shoebox appeals and other fundraising activities, the group have provided support to a Romanian Orphanage over a number of years. A group of students make the trip to Romania once a year to see for themselves how the cash has been used. The floristry department meanwhile takes students on educational trips near and far; to Amsterdam to view flower markets, parades and auctions and to Alnwick Gardens to see some green-fingered action closer to home.
