Five GCSEs at grade C or above, one of which must be at least grade C in Maths (higher tier)..

Course Content

AS Use of Mathematics students learn how to apply mathematics to make sense of real-life situations. The course explores mathematical problem-solving processes and helps students to develop clarity in the communication of mathematics. Students
also learn mathematical modeling techniques and discover how to read and
make sense of the mathematics of other people. The programme consists of three equally weighted units: Working with Algebraic and Graphical Techniques; Using and Applying Statistics and Applying Mathematics.

Start Date: September one year

Assessment

Three 1 hour 30 minute written exams, one 1 hour written exam and two coursework portfolios.

Progression To

Use of Maths is particularly useful for students who wish to take a degree with a mathematical element e.g. business studies, sciences or geography. Students can also progress onto AS and A2 Mathematics.
