Course Content
Understanding the nature and causes of aerial differentiation on the global surface has been the geographer’s task since people first noticed differences between places. This programme explores these differences in patterns of human distribution, interrelationships between human society and the physical environment and peoples’ use of the Earth in time and space. Students explore physical and human subjects including core topics on rivers, floods and management and population change. Students also study two optional topics: coastal environments and food supplies. Additionally, they learn geographical skills including maps, graphs and statistics.
Interesting Facts
Geography has fieldwork opportunities – a chance to experience the Great outdoors – we have links as far afield as Norway and Italy (where we are working on aspects of Global warming) as well as Cumbria and closer to home. We also have links with universities including the local ones, Newcastle and Northumbria but also as far away as Plymouth and Belfast.

“In view of the fact that it is some 35 years or more since I engaged in any form of study and I currently enjoy academic success which surpasses all of my expectations, I believe I can credit some of that achievement to the encouragement and support of my tutors. ”
