You should have 5 GCSE’s at C or above to include English Language (higher tier) and English Literature (higher tier)

Course Content

At AS level of the English Literature programme, students are introduced to narrative’s central position within literary texts as they explore different aspects of literary representation. Additionally, the significance of genre is given consideration.
Students look at how narrative is formed and developed. They can opt to study the work of authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and James Joyce. Post-1990 writers include Arundhati Roy, Ann Tyler, Ian McEwan and Sebastian Faulks. The work of poets including Alfred Tennyson, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and W.H Auden will be studied and coursework will cover the dramatic genre of tragedy. Two plays will be studied, at least one of which will be by Shakespeare.

One 2 hour (closed book) written exam and coursework.
