Entry Requirements
Five GCSE’s at grade C or above, which must include Maths and English Language. A2 requires AS Psychology.
Course Content
Students who have achieved Psychology at AS level can move on to complete the full A2 qualification. The word ‘psychology’ is derived from the Greek ‘psyche’ (mind, soul) and ‘logos’ (study), therefore it literally means ‘study of the mind’. The subject is now generally interpreted as the ‘scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. Psychology students initially explore a broad range of subjects such as relationships, aggression, eating behaviours and gender. In the programme’s later stages psychopathology, schizophrenia, depression and anxiety disorders are taught. Students also look at psychology in action such as the psychology of addiction and research methods.

Assessment
One 1 hour 30 minute written exam and one 2 hour written exam.
Progression To
Psychology is a valuable subject for anyone considering a career involving people, e.g. human resources, business, teaching, medicine, law, policing or social work. Specific careers include clinical, forensic, educational and counselling psychology.
